For sometime now, Artuta has been hosting online Drawing Salons on Wednesdays and Sundays. It had been a while since I joined one, so I decided to hop online tonight. I was greeted by Joan, our Artuta instructor and her cat. In my lap, my dog. Later, another student joined us and in our casual conversations about life, a metaphor about water came up and so the theme of tonight’s drawing was “water.”
Drawing is not my strong suit and as I watched and listened to Joan talk about her drawing and how her life informed the things she drew, I started to make lines and shapes forming something. Everyone got really into what they were drawing quite quickly. I have to say I did not expect the Drawing Salon to feel so therapeutic. As the other student said, “It’s therapeutic every week.”
After some time of being lost in our drawings, our creations were uploaded and shared on the screen for a “crit.” It was not like those horrendous critiques in school, it felt good to share and hear what other people thought and saw from looking at my drawing. We took turns sharing and giving each other crits. The Drawing Salon concluded with announcements of upcoming events. Overall, the Drawing Salon was as fluid and flexible as, well, water!
If you’re interested in joining a Drawing Salon, I highly recommend it. You can meet other artists from around the world and draw in a judgment free space! Give yourself the time to draw with Artuta! :)
