Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background as an artist?
I am an artist living and working in Brooklyn from South Korea. I have been residing in the US since my teenage years finishing both undergrad and grad education here. As an artist, I work across a wide range of mediums: painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and poetry.
What inspires your artwork and creative process?
My works are inspired by experiences from daily life such as walking in nature or talking to people. I like to read and write accompanying my practices. My creative practice heavily depends on the projects, situations, and environment.
How do you approach teaching art?
Art education is about cultivating critical thinking, sharpening observational skills, and learning to transform imagination into tangible creations. Through artistic engagements, I hope to inspire students to deepen their interest in art-making and creative exploration.
Can you tell us about your classes, and what you hope students take away from them?
The Art + Science class bridges artistic expression with the fundamentals of maker culture and DIY projects, including watercolor pigment making with kitchen ingredients, simple circuitry for dioramas, and creating kinetic sculpture. Students will gain a basic understanding of the relationship between scientific approach in art making.
